I have been writing for the web for over three years.  I have an unusual career path which you can read about at my Typepad about me page

I think that I bring some unique thoughts to the blogging world.  I have lived in a number of places from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I worked in even more, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, Charlotte, Charlottesville, Blacksburg, Chapel Hill, Los Alamos, Livermore, Orlando, and Atlanta.  We have traveled extensively and living seventeen years in Canada puts a whole new spin on your world view.

Life in a glass walled Fortune 500 company like Apple gave me a rare perspective on the world and access to people and places that I might otherwise never visited.

Yet my roots are in the soil, my mother, whose relatives likely fought in the Revolutionary War, grew up on a millpond near Yadkinville, North Carolina.  My father, whose family left Germany in 1880, grew up on a potato farm in Michigan and later became a furniture manufacturer.

While I grew in Lewisville, NC and in Mount Airy, NC, the first three years of my life were next door to a grain mill in Yadkin County.  After college I went back to the land and felt very much at home.

In my twenty years with Apple Computer, I walked the halls of some pretty interesting places, endured meetings with Steve Jobs, and eventually escaped to a much better world on the coast of North Carolina where my dreams led me.

Life has had it challenges, but one of my core beliefs is that adversity makes you better.
